Ecobee has officially announced its newest smart thermostat — the Ecobee4 — and as expected, it has a built-in microphone and speaker allowing you to control the thermostat with Alexa.
Because Alexa already has a bunch of skills ready to go, owners of the new Ecobee4 can now use the thermostat to set timers, ask questions, get the news or even control other devices. Put another way, the Ecobee4 is basically like an Echo Dot, but with a built-in thermostat.
To me, this is pretty awesome because it means that there’s a great chance Alexa will be able to hear me and respond to me in various parts of my house. As more and more devices get Alexa built-in, it will mean that I’ll only need one or two Echo speaker to cover my whole house instead of four or five.
You’ll be able to pre-order the Ecobee starting May 3rd, which availability officially starting May 15hth for $249. Just like with the Ecobee3, the Ecobee4 comes with one wireless temperature sensor and is compatible with up to 32 other sensors.
